Lisbon in a weekend
Europe's best 3-day city break — cheap, warm, walkable
Lisbon is the city that ruined every other weekend break. Warmer than Barcelona in shoulder season, cheaper than Madrid, and small enough that you can walk from Alfama to Bairro Alto after a full pastel de nata tour. Two nights minimum, three is better.
The plan
- 1Friday evening
Land, drop bags in Alfama or Chiado. Sunset bica coffee + petiscos at Taberna da Rua das Flores. Fado bar 22:00 (Mesa de Frades — book ahead).
- 2Saturday morning
Tram 28 at 08:00 (before pickpockets wake). Jerónimos Monastery, then Pastéis de Belém for the original custard tart.
- 3Saturday afternoon
LX Factory for lunch + independent shops. Sunset Miradouro da Senhora do Monte.
- 4Saturday night
Time Out Market for dinner, drinks in Bairro Alto until 02:00.
- 5Sunday morning
Sintra day-trip — train from Rossio 08:30, Pena Palace + Quinta da Regaleira. Back by 18:00.
- 6Sunday night
Rooftop dinner at Park (literally on top of a car park) with river view.
Pena Palace timed entry (sells out same-day in season) + a Fado dinner slot. Both on GetYourGuide.
Tram 28 pickpockets are ruthless — ride early. Sintra sells out — pre-book palace tickets or you'll queue 90 min.
