Budapest in a weekend
The best-value city break in Europe — thermal baths at €12 entry
Budapest is what Prague was 15 years ago: architecturally stunning, cheap, and still real. Széchenyi baths cost €12, a full dinner with wine €25, and 4-star hotels sit under €90/night midweek. Two full days covers the highlights.
The plan
- 1Friday evening
Land, drop bags in District VII (the Jewish Quarter). Ruin bar crawl starting Szimpla Kert.
- 2Saturday morning
Széchenyi thermal baths at 07:00 — empty and steamy. Full breakfast at Menza.
- 3Saturday afternoon
Buda Castle hill via the funicular. Fisherman's Bastion (free view). Late lunch at Halászbástya.
- 4Saturday night
Danube dinner cruise (€40 pp, book ahead) — the parliament lit up is a 10/10 memory.
- 5Sunday morning
Great Market Hall for lángos + goulash. Central Market Hall crafts.
- 6Sunday afternoon
Rooftop drinks at 360 Bar — panoramic view of St Stephen's Basilica.
Danube dinner cruise via Klook — sunset slots sell out. Széchenyi is walk-in but arrive 07:00 or 20:00 to skip crowds.
Watch for taxi meter scams from the airport — use miniBUD shared shuttle (€15/person) or Bolt app.
