Berlin in a weekend
Europe's best long-weekend party city — but also seriously good on history
Berlin has 24-hour clubs (Berghain, Kater Blau, Sisyphos), the best contemporary history museums in Europe, and the cheapest weekend price of any capital west of Prague. Fly in Thursday, out Monday — you'll need the recovery day.
The plan
- 1Friday morning
Land, base yourself in Kreuzberg or Mitte. Turkish breakfast at Kotti (Cafe Kotti). Walking tour of Brandenburg Gate + Holocaust Memorial.
- 2Friday afternoon
Topography of Terror (free) + East Side Gallery — hit both to grasp the Wall era.
- 3Friday night
Dinner at Markthalle Neun (Thursday Street Food only — check dates). Bars in Neukölln.
- 4Saturday
Museum Island morning (Pergamon or Neues), Tiergarten walk, Späti beer by the river. Club night from 01:00 — Berghain (no phones, no photos, all-black dress code).
- 5Sunday brunch
House of Small Wonder or Silo. Flea market at Mauerpark (Sunday only) with the karaoke pit.
- 6Monday
Recovery brunch, fly home.
Reichstag dome (free, pre-registration required). Pergamon Museum timed slot. Berghain doesn't take bookings — luck of the queue.
Berghain door is famously brutal — go alone or in pairs, all black, no chatter in the queue. If refused, Kater Blau or Sisyphos are the fallback.
