Copenhagen in a weekend

Design, food, cycling city — 3 days spent slowly is the play

Copenhagen is expensive but concentrated. The best strategy: rent a bike Day 1, don't rent a taxi all weekend, and eat 4 small meals a day at street-food halls (Reffen, Torvehallerne) plus one splurge dinner. Tivoli is a magical addition in December.

Flight from London
1h 55m — €90–180 return
Weekend cost for two
€700–1,100 for 2 (Copenhagen isn't cheap — worth every krone)

The plan

  1. 1
    Friday evening

Fly in, train to central (Metro from CPH €4). Drop bags, dinner at Torvehallerne food hall.

  2. 2
    Saturday morning

Rent a bike (Donkey Republic app). Little Mermaid + Kastellet, then loop to Nyhavn.

  3. 3
    Saturday afternoon

Christiania (peace-and-love commune), then Reffen street-food harbour lunch.

  4. 4
    Saturday night

Splurge dinner at Barr or Kadeau. Cocktails at Ruby.

  5. 5
    Sunday morning

Louisiana Museum of Modern Art (35 min train — worth the trip alone).

  6. 6
    Sunday afternoon

Tivoli Gardens (open-air amusement park, walkable), harbour bath swim in summer at Islands Brygge.

Book before you fly

A New Nordic tasting menu (Barr, Alchemist, Geranium) at least 60 days out. Louisiana Museum tickets timed slot.

The honest downside

Restaurants stop taking orders at 21:30 in most areas. Plan dinner before 20:00 or book late-open bistros (Höst, Manfreds).
