JapanThe world's best powder, all-you-can-eat sushi après

Niseko

The world's most consistent powder — with sushi and onsen après

Niseko gets 15+ metres of dry Siberian powder per season — the driest snow on Earth. The terrain isn't the biggest, but the snow quality means every intermediate skier suddenly feels great. Add onsen soaks, ramen at every lift base and yakitori evenings — nothing in Europe compares to the après experience.

Why go

  • Powder day almost every second day in January
  • Onsen (hot springs) after every session
  • Night skiing until 20:30 under floodlights — unique in the ski world
  • Some of Japan's best sushi, ramen and izakaya
Getting there

Fly Sapporo-Chitose (CTS). 3h bus (Hokkaido Resort Liner ¥5,000) or private van via Klook.

Après-ski

Bar Gyu+ (the fridge-door bar), Fatty's, Wild Bill's — plus late-night ramen at every corner

Non-negotiable for a ski week

Snowsports travel insurance

Standard travel policies exclude skiing. Add the winter-sports rider or a dedicated policy — a mountain rescue can be €10,000+ out of pocket.

The honest downside

Terrain tops out at 1,308m — not big-mountain. Rent a car and hit Rusutsu / Furano for 2-3 day trips.
