The AlpsDuty-free village, huge park, budget-friendly

Livigno

Italy's tax-free ski village — hosting the 2026 Olympic freestyle events

Livigno is a duty-free zone — alcohol, cigarettes, ski gear all 25% cheaper than the rest of the Alps. The resort is snow-sure (village at 1,816m), the ski area is bigger than most people realise (115km), and Mottolino has one of Europe's best terrain parks. Hosting Milano-Cortina 2026 halfpipe means new lifts and hotel investment.

Snowsports travel insurance

Standard travel policies exclude skiing. Add the winter-sports rider or a dedicated policy — a mountain rescue can be €10,000+ out of pocket.

The honest downside

Long, winding transfer from any airport (3.5-4h). If motion-sickness is a factor, dose up before the last hour.
