Iceland — Laugavegur Trail
Iceland's most famous multi-day — Landmannalaugar to Þórsmörk through geological Mars
Four days from the Landmannalaugar hot springs across sulphur-yellow mountains, black lava fields, and green Þórsmörk valley. You sleep in Ferðafélag Íslands huts (book March 1st when reservations open — Julys sell in a day) or camp beside them. Buses run daily from Reykjavík to both trailheads.
Route outline
No permit for hiking. Hut beds (~ISK 12,000/night) via fi.is — release March 1, book immediately for July/August.
6–8 hour days with 12 kg pack. River crossings knee-deep in glacier melt — bring water shoes.
Trekking insurance MUST cover the max altitude of your route — most standard policies cap at 3,000 m. Airalo eSIM for offline maps and check-ins from the trail.
Weather kills unprepared hikers every year — full winter kit even in July (snow can fall). Bring a real map — the fog wipes out visibility instantly.
